Gujarat, November 11 — The Adani Group has announced India’s largest battery energy storage project at Khavda in Gujarat, marking a major step toward strengthening the nation’s renewable power infrastructure.

The 1,126 MW / 3,530 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will be set up by Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) within its massive Khavda renewable energy park. The project will use advanced lithium-ion battery technology housed in more than 700 storage containers.

According to Adani, the project will be commissioned by March 2026 and will help stabilize India’s power grid by storing excess renewable energy during low demand and supplying it during peak hours. The company also plans to expand storage capacity to 15 GWh by 2027 and 50 GWh within five years, making it one of the largest such programs globally.

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said the initiative aligns with India’s clean-energy goals and supports 24×7 renewable power supply. The project will play a crucial role in integrating large-scale solar and wind energy into the grid, reducing curtailment and improving reliability.

With this, Adani becomes the first private player to launch such a large single-location BESS project in India, reinforcing the country’s push toward achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
