Gaza, Nov 23: Israel launched a series of airstrikes across Gaza on Saturday, killing at least 24 people and injuring over 50, according to Gaza’s health authorities. The strikes come as the fragile ceasefire, in place since October 10, faces one of its most serious challenges.
Israeli forces said the attack was carried out after an “armed terrorist” crossed the “Yellow Line,” an area from which Israeli troops had previously withdrawn, and opened fire. The Israeli military said it targeted “terror sites” in response, claiming that five senior Hamas militants were among those killed.
Hospitals in Gaza reported multiple casualties from strikes in Gaza City, Nuseirat camp, Al-Awda area, and Deir al-Balah. Doctors said several children were among the dead.
Hamas denied violating the ceasefire and accused Israel of attempting to escalate tensions. Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office, however, stated that Hamas was responsible for the breach.
The UN’s humanitarian office (OCHA) said aid operations continue but face “significant restrictions,” including limited visas and reduced crossing capacity.
The recent escalation comes as international mediators push forward a UN-backed plan aimed at stabilising Gaza, forming an interim administration, and outlining a potential roadmap toward a Palestinian state.
